To obtain a Private Pilot License (PPL) in the U.S., you must meet the following Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) requirements:

Basic Requirements

Age: Must be at least 17 years old (16 for a student pilot certificate).
Language Proficiency: Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand English.
Medical Certificate: Must obtain at least a third-class medical certificate from an FAA-authorized aviation medical examiner (AME).

Flight Training Requirements

Student Pilot Certificate: Obtain this before beginning solo flight training.
Flight Hours: A minimum of 40 total flight hours, including:

  • 20 hours of flight training with an instructor

  • 10 hours of solo flight, including:

    • 5 hours of solo cross-country

    • One solo cross-country flight of at least 150 nautical miles with three landings at different airports

    • 3 hours of night flying (including 10 takeoffs and landings)

    • 3 hours of flight training using instruments

Knowledge & Testing

Ground School: Complete ground training covering topics such as aerodynamics, weather, navigation, regulations, and emergency procedures.
FAA Written Exam: Pass a knowledge test (multiple-choice exam).
Checkride: Successfully complete a practical flight test (checkride) with an FAA-designated examiner, which includes an oral exam and an in-flight evaluation.

Once you pass the checkride, you’ll officially earn your Private Pilot License, allowing you to fly solo or with passengers (but not for hire or compensation).

  • A perfect introduction to flying for beginners. Enjoy a one-hour flight where you can take the controls under the guidance of a certified instructor. Option to bring guests for an additional fee, depending on weight and balance.

  • Receive personalized flight instruction from experienced and certified flight instructors. Tailored to meet your individual learning needs and goals, whether you’re a beginner or looking to refine your skills.

  • Experience flying the popular Cessna 172, or ever sought-after Beechcraft Sundowner, both known for their reliability and comfort. Ideal for longer training sessions or journeys. Fuel included.

  • One - hour ground lessons for students will be held every Tuesday at the airport FBO, 15$ a head. Mandatory attendance for those pursuing a rating, but guests interested in learning on the ground first or getting a head start on their knowledge are welcome to attend.
